Power Butter and the History of Peanut Butter

Did you know that peanut butter was invented in 1890 as a nutritional supplement? That’s right, a St. Louis, Missouri food company who understood the protein benefits of peanuts, created peanut butter.

Peanut butter was a product that could be used as a protein supplement for men and women whose teeth would not allow them to chew meat.

What this company didn’t anticipate was the instant appeal that this product had with people of all ages. Instead of buying it as a nutritional supplement, people were buying it to put on bread, crackers, apples, bananas or just eat out of a spoon for no other reason than it tasted good!

It wasn’t until 1922 that peanut butter that could stay fresh for an extended period of time was created.  Once that was done, peanut butter became a staple mark in the American home, and not just for people who couldn’t chew meat.

Power Butter and Peanut Butter

You think of peanut butter as a nice thing to keep in the cabinet in case the kids want a snack.  Peanut butter offers all sorts of benefits, but one has to be conscious nowadays of rising numbers of people with peanut allergies, which can be fatal.

Dry roasted peanuts, which are what are traditionally used in peanut butter, contain the following nutrients, vitamins and minerals by the ounce:

  • Protein 14%
  • Fiber 8%
  • Vitamin E 25%
  • Niacin 19%
  • Magnesium 12%
  • Folate 10%
  • Copper 10%
  • Phosphorous 10%
  • Potassium 10%
  • Thiamin 8%
  • Zinc 6%
  • Iron 4%
  • Calcium 2%

In addition, peanuts are a carbohydrate free product.

Research has shown that people who eat a lot of peanuts are less likely to have heart related problems. The monounsaturated fats found in peanuts protect the heart.

Power Butter and Flaxseed

Flaxseed is an excellent source of protein, fiber and mucilage. Mucilage is a natural laxative, it is also very gentle so that it helps to regulate the body rather than causing issues with unwanted stomach cramping and gas.

The fiber in flaxseed actually acts as food for the good bacteria that lives in the human body. A good bacterium prevents a bad bacterium, which causes disease and illness, from growing in the body, especially the intestines and the bowels.

Lastly, Flaxseed is rich in lignans. Lignans are found in a variety of plants and they act as an antioxidant. Flaxseed is one of the richest sources of lignans found in the plant kingdom. It is believed, although not proven, that lignans can aid in the prevention of numerous diseases, including cancer.

Power Butter and Flax Oil

Flax oil is an excellent source of fatty acids. While flax oil is currently being studied, it is believed that it has a number of excellent benefits including:

  • Decreasing recovery time after a workout
  • Working as an anti-inflammatory
  • Increasing metabolism
  • Increasing energy levels
  • Improving liver function
  • Preventing blood clots
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Preventing heart attack
  • Boosting immunity levels

This is just a few of the things that flax oil may benefit. However, you have to remember that the jury is still out on flaxseed in terms of clinical data.

Power Butter and Egg Whites

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and while most of the protein comes from the yolk, so does all of the cholesterol, which is why Power Butter uses egg whites instead.

Egg whites contain the following nutrients, vitamins and minerals:

  • Protein
  • Thiamin
  • Riboflavin
  • Niacin
  • Vitamin B6
  • Folate
  • Vitamin B12
  • Choline
  • Biotin
  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Magnesium
  • Copper
  • Iodine
  • Sodium
  • Manganese

The truth is that egg yolks contain much higher levels of each of these positive elements because in egg whites, with the exception of protein, which is about 4% per egg white, biotin, which has about 2% per egg white and magnesium, which as 4% per egg white, all of the other benefits mentioned above are at below 1% of the daily recommended amount.

Power Butter and Omega 3 and Omega 6

These are fatty acids and they are essential to the health of the human body. There are numerous benefits associated with omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, including:

  • Eye health
  • Digestion health
  • Improved circulation
  • Regulating cell division
  • Transportation of oxygen
  • Healthy kidney function
  • Prevention of blood clotting
  • Improved energy levels

Studies are still being conducted on omega fatty acids to determine the full benefits that they offer.
