Rose Acre Farms Company HistoryLocated in Seymour, Indiana, Rose Acre Egg Farm has been in the Rust family for over 125 years. In 1939, the Rose Acre brand was developed and the first eggs were sold at a local farmer’s market by David Rust who was just out of high school at the time. As Rose Acre Farms grew the owners purchased eggs from other farms in the area to supplement what they could produce. In 1955, the first large chicken house was built at Rose Acre Farms in order to produce larger quantities of their own eggs. Rose Acre Farms Changes OwnershipIn the late 1980s the founder and owner of Rose Acre Farms, David Rust, went through a divorce with his wife Lois. After much bitter fighting, Lois became the chief stockholder and gained control of the company. While David still owns some stock in the company, it is Lois who runs it with the help of her seven children. Throughout the 1980s-2000s Rose Acre Farms built several more facilities in North Carolina and throughout the Midwest as the business continued to grow. In 1999, Rose Acre Farms was the first to imprint the date laid on each egg, which later was changed to the sell-by date.
