crossover step-up is a free weights exercise that primarily targets the quads and to a lesser degree also targets the calves, glutes and hamstrings.

The only crossover step-up equipment that you really need is the following: barbell and box. There are however many different crossover step-up variations that you can try out that may require different types of crossover step-up equipment or may even require no equipment at all.

Tips

  1. Stand close enough to the platform to where you can firmly plant your foot on the platform without overly stretching yourself.
  2. Keep your upper body straight throughout exercise.
  3. Make sure foot on the platform is facing straight out in front of you and not turned in or out.

Variations

  1. Dumbbells can be substituted for a barbell. .
  2. Rather than crossing over, the inside foot can be placed on the platform.
  3. Perform exercise. Except at the top position step down on the opposite side of the platform in a regular standing position. Now crossover opposite leg onto platform. Keep going back and forth like that until prescribed reps are completed.
