At age 13, Misty Copeland was told that she could not be a ballerina because she did not have the right body type for a ballerina. But her passion for the sport kept her fighting.
Through hours of training, endless repetition, and determination that would shame us all, Misty became a ballerina, an athlete, and the first African-American woman to be awarded the role of principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre.
Her physical and mental strength amazes us as she breaks down barriers and reinvents what it means to be an athlete.
