In this week’s #TipTuesday, we’re focusing on unleashing your ultimate swing! That means getting rid of those bad hip sways and slides that we’re all guilty of.
If you’re a golf aficionado, you probably know what we’re talking about, but if your golf skills are a work in progress, we’ll explain what lateral sways and slides are.
In the video below, Andrew Banner of AMPD Golf Performance teaches us what lateral sways and slides are. Check it out!
Now that you understand what lateral sways are, you may be wondering why they’re a problem.
Here’s the lowdown: lateral sways and slides are a sign of low hip mobility and/or stability or general laziness. Any of those options are a no-go for athletes of all ages and levels.
Since you now know the what and the why, watch AMPD’s tips for correcting your lateral sway in the video below:
As Andrew Banner proves in his video, correcting a lateral sway is pretty simple — just add that one exercise to your workout routine! Here’s a quick recap of Banner’s tips:
- Take a lateral step – Using a resistance machine, take a lateral step or lunge. When you lunge, your lead leg should point away from the machine, and your trail leg should face the machine. Also, your lead leg should be bent at almost 90 degrees, and your trail leg should be straight.
- Do a rotation – Once you have the lateral step down, move right into the rotation. In one smooth move, lunge and then do one rotation with your core while pulling on the resistance machine. The rotation portion of the exercise mimics the movement that is used in a proper downswing or backswing.
