Aminogen

Aid Overall Health

In the supplement community, there are many different enzymes, minerals, and vitamins that some companies will combine to create what they call their own unique formula that will offer you some sort of benefit. In the case of Aminogen, this is exactly what has happened.

Aminogen is not a vitamin and it is not a mineral. In fact, as far as the scientific community is concerned, Aminogen is nothing! That’s right, in the world of medicine, there is no place for Aminogen. However, this is not the case in the supplement community.

Aminogen can be found packaged in caplets, tablets and powders. It can be found in multivitamins as well as protein powders, mass gain products and so on. The real question then becomes, what is Aminogen exactly and does it even benefit the human body?

Not all types of physical activity are suitable for everyone. Users take training advice at their own personal risk.

Aminogen and What it is

According to companies that use Aminogen in their supplement product, Aminogen is a compound that allows for the complete absorption of protein in the body.

If you are an athlete, and perhaps even if you aren’t, you know that there are multiple benefits to protein. Simply put, it is essential to the function of the human body. However, no matter how much protein you take, the body can only absorb so much of it, and this is where Aminogen is supposed to come in.

Supposedly, Aminogen helps your body to absorb more of the protein that you ingest. Aminogen latches onto foods that contain amino acids as they are being digested.  Aminogen then ensures that those amino acids, which are used to create protein, are absorbed correctly into the body.

The problem is, none of this actually explains what Aminogen actually is. If you read the ingredient label on products that claim to be Aminogen, you will see nonsense information such as proprietary blend or patented protease.

U.S. regulations require companies to list all of the ingredients in a product on their bottles, by listing them in order of most to least. However, it is still impossible to determine what ingredients are used as the Aminogen, what are fillers and so on.

Herbalife is the company who originally started using Aminogen in 2001. They list the following ingredients in their Aminogen product (in alphabetical order):

  • Calcium
  • Carnauba Wax
  • Corn Starch
  • Dextrin
  • Dextrose Monohydrate
  • Hydroxypropyl Cellulose
  • Magnesium Stearate
  • Maltodextrin
  • Microcrystalline Cellulose
  • Patented Protease (from Aminogen)
  • Silicon Dioxide
  • Sodium Carboxyrnethylcellulose
  • Sodium Citrate
  • Sodium Starch
  • Soy Lecithin
  • Stearic Acid

Most of these ingredients can be found in any supplement product on the market. Which of these ingredients actually creates Aminogen?

The answer to this question might actually be in the name. Often times in the pharmaceutical world, in order to name a new compound, the company will simply combine part of each compound into one long word. Occasionally, that is also the case with supplement companies and it is the case with Aminogen.

Aminogen and What’s in a Name

So, what does the name mean? Well, the name Amino is the beginning part of amino acids. This must refer to part of the supposed function of Aminogen, the extraction of amino acids to produce protein.

Gen is just a general term used throughout the scientific community for producing. So, the breakdown of the name simply means amino production. Unfortunately, this analysis still doesn’t provide any information about the Aminogen product itself and how it works.

If Aminogen breaks down protein via amino acid extraction, then the name is fairly accurate. Of course, it could also be called AminoPro because the way amino acids are broken down is through protease.

Regardless, what you end up is with a name that simply defines what the Aminogen product is supposed to do but no information as to what makes it do what they claim.

Aminogen and the Scientific Basis

The kicker here is that Aminogen is supposed to be a clinically proven product for the breakdown of amino acids into protein. However, if you take the time to look for clinical research for Aminogen, you are going to be disappointed.

The only company that has done any so called research on Aminogen is Herbalife. What’s more, these were internal studies conducted by their own staff on people who were paid to use their products.

Unfortunately, this is nowhere near the criteria for a real clinical study. A clinical study requires years of research, placebo versus product studies and product versus other product studies. Overall, it is impossible to say whether Aminogen actually works.
